There's all kinds of postings online for people who are seeking models of all ages, races and body types. Many times you can find lots of job openings on sites like Craigslist.com. But unless you are familiar with the world of "small time modeling" it is easy to get lost in a web of deception. There's far more shady photographers and bogus companies out there than there are legitimate ones. So in this article I will give you some great tips on how to avoid beginning modeling traps and how to land gigs that are actually worth you time.

When you begin modeling you will need a portfolio. You don't need to buy one, so do not let companies mislead you into thinking this. If you decide to purchase a portfolio, you can plan to spend several hundreds of dollars. However, a nice scrapbook from the dollar store and a little creativity will get you just as far.

There's thousands of photographers online that are looking for "TFP" models. TFP means "Time for Prints", in other words, they will provide you with your images because you will not be getting paid for the shoot. This has advantages and disadvantages for the model. As long as you are smart about it, you will win.

A REAL TFP photographer is looking to build their portfolio. It is mandatory that you guarantee that your images will be used for nothing other than building their portfolio. I suggesting printing up a free TFP contract off the of internet or writing one out yourself. If the photographer refuses to sign it then this should be a red flag to you.

I am an aspiring photographer... I usually look at modelmayhem.com when I am looking for TFP/TFCD models.

I am an aspiring photographer and I have tried to do a couple of TFP things in the past month. One of the girls was a no call, no show and the other one worked out pretty well. I actually do time for CD of the images instead of prints. I found the two girls through modelmayhem.com which is a site full of photographers and models. Any photos that I take are understood that they will be used on my photography blog which is my website and portfolio pretty much.

Modeling is the one profession I need not worry about. That is unless someone needs a middle aged overweight guy with thinning hair. If so, then I'm in! Have a great 208 Tori!

My Mom took me to a modeling thing I begged to go to as a teen. Suddenly she whisked me out of the office (I was livid of course)- and told me their were semi-nude pics on the desk. And I know things are much worse now. Have a Happy New Year Tori!
