Wikileaks.org is a triumph for freedom of speech and information worldwide. Up until recently, there had been very few news sources that were truly independent, that truly allowed their readers access to the first hand accounts and evidence supporting some of the most controversial breaking news in history. Finally the day has arrived when information, often "inconvenient truths" can be posted completely anonymously to be pooled and shared by citizens of the world.

The website offers people from any country the opportunity to post information that could be viewed as sensitive and often harmful to the causes of many of the world's most subversive political elements and governments. The information posted and the posting party's IP address is encrypted in order to make it untraceable. According to the website, " Wikileaks accepts previously undisclosed or currently censored documents or other media of political, diplomatic or ethical significance. Wikileaks does not accept rumor, opinion or other kinds of first hand reporting or material that is already publicly available. All staff who deal with sources are accredited journalists or lawyers. All submissions establish a journalist-source relationship. Online submissions are routed via Sweden and Belgium which have first rate journalist-source shield laws. Wikileaks records no source identifying information and there are a number of submission mechanisms available to deal with even the most sensitive national security information." (www.wikileaks.org)

I have found it odd that there has not been a multi-government effort to stop such a controversial and politically dangerous site. Perhaps the world and specifically the US public has not yet heard of such a site or doesn't recognize the fact that there now exists a platform for anonymous information sharing that is completely untraceable and free. The potential of such a site is limitless and it remains to be seen if the world will take advantage of such an innovative and potentially influential site.
