Senator Joseph Biden (D, Delaware), running fourth in the Iowa caucus race and gaining momentum, spoke to a crowd of about 150 potential caucus-goers in the Davenport, Iowa, home of Iowa State Senator (Dr.) Joe Seng on Saturday, December 22nd at noon. The two "Joe(s)" have been personal friends for years, and Seng, a local veteraniarian and long-time Iowa pol, has actively supported Biden since the beginning of the caucus race. Seng also hosted an outdoor gathering at his large home on Tremont Street in Davenport during nicer weather at which both Biden and Edwards appeared, Edwards arriving aboard his Main Street Express bus.

Biden workers passed out literature citing the Senator's work as a strong advocate for women. Television spots now airing in Iowa also play up the Biden Exit Strategy for withdrawal from Iraq, which garnered 75 votes in the Senate and, according to Biden, "overwhelming support" in the House of Representatives. Biden was quite clear about one point, saying, "The military did NOT recommend going into Iraq." Presidential candidates have spent more than $7 million on radio and television time in the Quad Cities market, according to an article in the Moline, Illinois Daily Dispatch that appeared today (12/22). Romney began running his ads in March; Romney and Obama have been the biggest spenders, although Thompson, Richardson, Biden, Edwards and Huckabee have been spending till it hurts, too.

Biden, whose son Beau is serving in Iraq, said, "These kids (soldiers) are incredible. They're brave as hell" and told a story about being asked to accompany a family to claim their son's casket, as it was flown into Dover, Delaware. The current administration has tried very hard to keep the public from becoming more aware of the tragic toll of this conflict in terms of soldiers killed.

Great article Connie. I actually agree with Joe more then any other candidate because of his generally liberal views, but also his courage to take unpopular stands on the war on drugs and missions to stop genocide in Kosovo and Darfur. Those stances don't play too well within his own party. The only reason I am not caucusing for Joe is because my state rep is a supporter and he has a personality that is not very friendly to say the least. I just don't want to brag by saying Joe did so well because I got out the vote for him in this county.

In these troubled and dire time we live in, Joe Biden, to me, encompasses all that we desperately need for our nation: 1) Intelligence 2) Experience in ALL phases of government 3) Strength 4) Respect from world leaders 5) Diplomacy 6) Command of issues 7) Solutions to problems that face our nation 8) Honesty 9) Integrity 10) Respect and trust from his peers 11) Respect and trust from the people who follow him 12) an EXPERT in foreign policy Joe Biden certainly meets ALL of the criteria above. I pray and hope every day that Mr. & Mrs. America, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina know in their hearts, that if we lose Joe Biden, we'll have lost one of the best Presidents our nation will ever have. Correction: Senator Joe Biden's son, Joseph "Beau" Biden, the Attorney General of Delaware, is a member of the Delaware National Guard (Judge Advocates' Corps). His unit has been told they may be deployed to Iraq in 2008.
