One of the biggest headaches faced by air travelers is passing through airport security. Whether you like it or not, this part of air travel is necessary for everyone's safety. With that in mind, there are certain things that you, the air traveler, can do in order to smooth the transition from the check-in portion of the terminal to the actual departure area, short of stripping naked and wrapping yourself in transparent plastic while passing through the metal detectors.

1) If you are carrying any type of beverage, dispose of it before passing through security. You are not allowed to bring drinks through security, whatsoever. Yes, there are those individuals that will argue that they get dehydrated easily and they must keep water with them at all times. For those people I say, finish your drink before entering the security queue and that should probably alleviate any danger of you falling ill or passing out before you get a chance to find a water fountain in the departure area. You can do this or like the individual who recently chugged down a bottle of vodka he wasn't allowed to bring through security, you can make your day's travel to the nearest emergency room. Your choice. Somehow, I think ingesting all that vodka was not to prevent dehydration, but rather a reactionary idiot "stickin' it to the suits". He sure showed them!

In addition, that $100 bottle of wine you purchased at that vineyard on the west coast, that you can't wait to get home and share with friends, is not allowed in your carry-on bags, let alone through security. If you fear breakage in your checked bags, then wrap it tightly and securely when you pack and you won't have to worry at all. Otherwise, you'll be catching that plane home, but that bottle of wine won't be coming with you.

2) If you are traveling with a laptop computer, take it out of the case and put it in its own tray to pass through the security belt, prior to being asked. This is not a large inconvenience, especially if you're only dealing with only one other carry-on bag, at most.

Good ideas for speedy checkpoints. Guess what!?! Although airport security often takes items away from travelers, it is occasionally possible for travelers to pick up something extra (and undesirable) at these checkpoints. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/378480/security_alert_a_fungus_among_us.html
