On almost every college campus across America there is a College Democrats and/or College Republicans chapter set up and run by students. One of the most successful events that I have seen and helped put together on college campuses everywhere is a political debate between the two organizations. The political debate takes a lot of time, effort and preparation to plan the event but it can really raise the level of political awareness and interest on your campus. Here are the keys to planning the event and making it a success. At the College Democrats-College Republicans debate at Harvard, the event organizers really put a lot of effort into the event. They even got a political guest speaker from a political news show. The guest speaker made a speech for a about half an hour on the future of American politics and the success of College Democrat and College Republican chapters across the country.
He also talked a little bit about the issues that were being talked about during the political debate which were: abortion, gay rights, death penalty, and Iraq. The event planners had the guest speaker stand up on the stage in front of a podium and microphone to make it look as professional as possible. The actual debate between the two college groups went very well as almost 500 students came in attendance.
The key to success for the event is the ability for the members of college democrats and college republicans to work well with each other in planning the event. You may not agree with the other person's party affiliation or viewpoints, but at the end of the day it is important to come together to achieve the goal of putting on a successful event. The first step in organizing the event is for the two executive boards of both college democrats and college republicans on the college campus getting together to lay the foundation for the event.
