Gambling Addictions Exposed: Are the Experts Explaining it Correctly?
Serious gambling is a form of dishonesty and a violation of the work ethic. "An honest day's work for an honest day's pay" is set aside in hopes of getting ahead quickly. Character does not have to be developed, and sensible practices of living are set aside, in favor of all the "perks" that are designed to make people feel like kings and queens.
Gambling involves "hope," or putting one's faith in a false element that has to do with luck or chance. Professional gamblers might be able to reduce or eliminate the factors of chance and luck, but nevertheless come into conflict with solid work principles.
Many people play various lotteries, which have sadly become sanctioned and run by a number of states. I feel this is most sad, because lotteries are every bit as much gambling as casino type games.
Let's consider some various questions and important points concerning gambling:
Can a person gamble socially, or a modest amount and is it okay?
Really, there are some things you shouldn't do at all, and I happen to believe this is one of them. In the long run, it will distract you from more meaningful pursuits, not even getting into the spiritual aspects of why it can be harmful.
What about professional gamblers, such as Blackjack or Poker players who know the odds and can beat the game?
I did play Blackjack and Poker professionally during a couple of points in my life, so I speak from experience. I previously submitted a professional gambling article, ""Can You Make Money Consistently by Playing Blackjack?" At the end of the writing, I explained that this is ultimately not a good endeavor or way to be successful.
What is compulsive or addictive gambling?
