Salt is added to foods to enhance the flavor, and table salt contains iodine, which is a necessary dietary component to keep the skin, hair, and nails healthy as well as prevent thyroid problems. Although iodized salt provides health benefits, there are those who are required to reduce their sodium intake for a variety of health reasons.
