Obtain a Gastroentronologist.- A gastroentronologist is a doctor who specializes in gastrointestinal disorders and diseases. They will be able to treat you better than your family physician. It is recommended that you see your specialist every three months so that they can help you to better manage your colitis. They do lab work to check your white blood cell count. This helps to determine if you are in remission or having a flare up of the disease. By visiting your specialist regularly, they are also able to adjust your medications based on your needs at the time.
Take Your Medicine On Time- After meeting with your doctor create a schedule of times to take your medication. As with many medications taking them everyday at the same time will give you better results. Remember to follow the instructions that are included with your medication. Some medications need to be taken with food or milk, and may also interact with other medications that you are on. This includes over the counter medications.
