Introduction - My Personal Story

Most people, when writing an article of any scientific, logical, or debatable subject, let everyone know who they are. Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton... if you were to pick up a monograph from any of these individuals, you would probably prepare yourself to believe everything that was about to be said. If you were to see a new movie coming out by George Lucas or Steven Spielburg, you would immediately know what kind of a movie it would be, and you would also have preconceived notions before going to see it about how great it would be.

Unfortunately, the same holds true of the world of belief. Given your particular "alignment," you may reach for a book by Billy Graham, John MacArthur, Ravi Zecharias, or the new and somewhat sinister-looking Pope, or one that has been accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons, the Catholic Archdiocese, or the Southern Baptist Convention. In this case, rather than looking at everything available, you probably are the sort who has chosen one particular group to read and the rest to intolerantly cast off as heresy. Well, I have news for you: for every Watchtower you rip up, somewhere in the world, someone has torn up your cute little Jack Chick tract or your miniature "Case For Faith" by Lee Strobel. For every book by the Dalai Lama you "turn the other cheek" at, casting it off as the work of a heretic, somewhere in the world, someone is almost throwing up when they look at that lovely little work your favorite pastor or missionary privately published and is working hard to sell on that intercontinental paper route of his. For every day you walk out the door saying "I'm going to be a great witness for Christ today," there are a hundred new atheists born, vowing off the idea of wanting to be anything like you.
