If you're decorating your home on a budget, there are a variety of ways to give your home an elegant artistic feel without spending a small fortune. One of the best ways to add interest and character to your dwelling is to decorate with rocks. You may be surprised to hear that something as common as a rock could actually be considered decorative. They certainly can be if you know how to use them. Here's how to master the fine art of decorating with rocks:

Decorate with rocks: Create an indoor water fountain

Nothing sounds more peaceful than the sound of water flowing over rocks. It's actually quite easy to make your own indoor water fountain using an aquarium pump, rocks, and other decorative elements. You can make fountains in a variety of sizes depending upon the container you choose. An indoor water fountain is a wonderful addition to a desktop or a larger one can be placed in the corner of your living room. Complete instructions for constructing an indoor water fountain can be found online.

Decorate with rocks: Fill a glass vase with rocks.

Fill a large, clear glass vase with beautiful rocks and pebbles. Insert some dried branches or other florals purchased from your floral shop or craft store. Display several of these throughout your house. This will give an ultra chic and contemporary look to your home.

Decorate with rocks: Decorate a plate.

Find a beautiful, solid colored or clear plate and glue small pebbles along the entire rim of the plate. Use this to hold a large pillar candle. This will look elegant placed on a coffee table in your living room. No one will have to know you paid almost nothing for it.

Decorate with rocks: Layer a vase with pebbles and sand.

Find a large, contemporary looking clear glass vase. Add a layer of sand, followed by a layer of smooth pebbles. Continue alternating sand and pebbles until you reach the top of the vase. This creates a beautiful sculpture that will add a contemporary, natural touch to your home. You can even dye the sand using food coloring if you want a more colorful look.

Decorate with rocks: Make cute animal sculptures.

Here in the Sonoran Desert, we find crazy ways to decorate with rocks - since that's about all we have, if you don't count the array of cacti :-)
