There are no frozen lakes and seldom snow on the ground, but ice skating is one of Atlanta's favorite past-times, winter or summer. There are plenty of ice skating rinks in the Atlanta where you can enjoy ice skating with your family.

Ice Skating at Centennial Olympic Park

The most popular ice skating venue in Atlanta is Centennial Olympic Park. It is also Atlanta's only outdoor ice skating rink. Centennial Olympic Park's skating rink opens November 10 through January 6. Skating on the ice is highlighted by holiday music and theatrical lighting.

Non-skaters enjoy covered observation seating.

Ice skating is $6 per person for ninety minutes. Skate rental is an additional $2. Only cash and checks are accepted at the ice skating rink. College and group discounts are available. There is no skate rental fee for groups of twenty or more. Plans must be made in advance. No group discounts are given at the rink.

Centennial Olympic Park's Ice Skating Rink is open Monday through Thursday; hours vary according to the holiday season. Visit Centennial Park's website for operating hours. Call 404-223-4412 for more information.

The Ice Forum Ice Skating Facilities: Kennesaw and Duluth

The Ice Forum is considered among Georgia's premier ice skating facilities. Rinks are located in Kennesaw and Duluth. Both ice skating rinks are regulation size rinks as defined by the National Hockey League (200' x 85'). The Gladiators, Junior Thrashers, and Thunder AAA hockey practice in these facilities.

Skating at the Duluth facility is $10. Ice skating at The Ice Forum in Kennesaw is $7.

In addition to ice skating both Ice Forums offer a snack bar, pro shop, video games, skate sharpening and repair service, skate rentals for both figure and hockey skates, and spectator seating.

Ice Forum encourages the public to enjoy ice skating all year long. They are open 365 days a year, 7 days a week.

Ice Forum also offers group or private lessons, and party packages for ice skating with friends.

I wouldn't have associated ice skating with Atlanta, but what great family fun! Your article brought back a childhood memory: I grew up in the country- when I was a kid they would flood the DOT parking lot and let it freeze. We always skated outdoors for free!

Great suggestion and info. I haven't ice skated in years, but would love to do it one night with my husband this winter.

I have not ice skated in years. The last time was at an indoor rink and it was a struggle. Think I will check out the closest rink out here in sunny California and give it another try. My most favorite childhood activity. A favorite memory is when my daughter was staying in NYC attending Dog Grooming school. I spent a weekend with her and we wanted to go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. The lines were so long, we ended up at a local rink down the street from the school. We had a ball.
