Last night, 26 December 2007, my family and I went to see Disney's Princess Classics on Ice. It was opening night at the Dunkin Donut Center (formally Providence Civic Center) at Providence, Rhode Island.

The story of Princesses on Ice is based on the Disney Princess characters; Jasmine (Aladdin), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Ariel (the Little Mermaid), Mulan, Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Snow White, and Cinderella.

The first part of the show is based on highlights of the story of all of these characters. The show starts with the story of Aladdin, complete with the Genie and a team of skaters. During the highlight of Aladdin's story one of the Elephant from the cartoon comes out carrying Aladdin as a prince.

The story line then turned into the story of Sleeping Beauty. The three fairies are deciding on her dress when sleeping beauty in out picking berries. The highlight of this part of the story is the 'witch' that comes out complete with fireworks and causes sleeping beauty to fall asleep.

The stage quickly changes to the set of The Little Mermaid. In typical Disney fashion, the customs were amazing. The skaters had florescent fish customs with many different colors. The castle stage in the back was decorated in florescent coral.

The ice rink quickly changed to the story of Mulan, a Chinese princess that posed as a man in order to fight in the army instead of her father. The characters entered the rink from the back and staked to traditional sounding Chinese music.

The castle in the back of the skating rink changed to a castle in Beauty and the Beast. Belle and the Beast battled the prince that tried to kill the Beast in order to protect Belle; however, the Beast then transformed into the handsome prince.

The last part of the first set was the story of Snow White. While the ice was dark, the arena was filled with the sound of 'Hi-Ho' all of the children went crazy knowing that the dwarves from Snow White coming out. The story of Snow White was quickly skated out while singing 'Whistle While You Work." The story ended with snow White eating the poison apple from the wicked witch and falling asleep.
