MP4 Watch: Sharper Image Product is Garbage

A recent trip to Sharper Image revealed to me a new product called the MP4 Watch. This watch is being considered as cutting edge because it allows you to listen to music anytime, anywhere. Basically, this is the perfect product for those who do not want to lug along a music player, but still want to listen to music every now and then. It appears that the company felt like the best way to do this would be to incorporate a music player into an object (watch) that we have with us on a consistent basis. The result was a product that had a novel idea, but a bad concept in general. Let me explain to you more about the MP4 Watch and why it is not fashion.

A quick look at the specifications show a music player that is pretty cool and simple at the same time. What we have here is a watch that incorporates the MP4 music player. The player is strategically built into the watch and allows you to play music at the push of a button. Something that enhances the watch right away is the 1.5 inch OLED screen. For those of you who have been living under a rock or just do not know, OLED screens are considered the next big thing in display screen evolution. Having the screen in the watch might allow you to scream "fashion",but it still does not put the watch into that distinguished category.

The watch even comes with a set of headphones. My opinion is that the headphones defeat the whole purpose of the watch. You wanted the MP4 Watch so you would not have to lug around a bigger music player. Yet, you have not problem carry the headphones. The headphones will easily connect to the watch jack and allow you to listen to music or even watch movies/videos whenever you want. This is made possible by a built in 4 GB memory. A memory that size allows you to save up enough songs and videos that is similar to Zune and Ipod capabilities. However, the screen is very small and makes it silly to attempt watching movies or videos on the device. You are better off sticking to just listening to music with the device.
