In my state, those who want to attend New Years Eve Celebrations in Northwest Ohio, are gearing up for the biggest party day of the year. This is going to be a highlight of the year 2007. Parties are not only for the adults, there are many places with special events planned for the children. Below are some great places holding celebrations for families.

First Light Sylvania
Various locations, Sylvania, Ohio

This event features a alcohol-free celebration. It will take place from 6 to 10 pm in six places throughout downtown Sylvania and in Sylvania township. Various children's activities have been planned. There will be a Kid's Creation Station, storytelling, Guitar Hero duels, ballet and magic shows. Some of the entertainers include Eddie Boggs, Kerry Patric Clark, barbershop and soft country and rock groups and featuring a country bluegrass jam session. At 9:30pm there will be a firework display over Harroun Park.

Transportation to the event will be available from various locations including Sylvania Historical Village, Lourdes College and St. Joseph's church. You can purchase a wristband for entry, in advance, for $5 at the Giant Eagle in Sylvania, the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce, Chandler's Cafe and at the Franciscan Theater and Conference Center of Lourdes College. Wristbands purchased at the event on December 31st will be $8 for adults and $5 for children over 3 years of age. For further information you can call 419 882-2135.

Walleye Madness at Midnight
Downtown Port Clinton, Ohio

For the last 12 years on New Years Eve, the city of Port Clinton, Ohio gathers together to celebrate with a "walleye drop". A celebration of the walleye which is a fish that is local to our area. In the beginning years, there was a large paper mache walleye, named Wylie, weighing in at 120-pounds and measuring 17 feet long that was dropped. But in 1997, after a rough celebration which caused him to crack, he was replaced with a 600 pound fiberglass walleye measuring 20 feet long.
