The piercing of the tongue seems to be quite popular around the world but maybe even more so here in the United States of America. No matter how young or how old a person is the tongue piercing is for anyone who wants to have it done. Age is not the issue with the piercing but the health risks are the issue. Most people are not even aware of some of the issues that come along with having your tongues pierced. There some issues that everyone should know about before they get their tongue pierced. I have complied a list here of some of the risks and issues that accompany a tongue piercing, please bear in mind that this list is to help you combat some of the issues so that you can enjoy your tongue piercing with out any problems.
1. Do not wear metal jewelry all the time because metal jewelry can damage the teeth by the constant rubbing on the teeth with the metal or the clicking of the metal on the teeth can cause tooth breakage. There is plastic jewelry that you can purchase to wear and this is a lot safer for your teeth.
2. Make sure that you have a professional perform your tongue piercing and that the person is quite creditable because if it is done wrong you can cut a vein in the tongue which would led to you having to have stitches put in your tongue alone with some other medical problems.
3. When you have a new tongue piercing it will take you some time to get use to the piercing so chewing should be something that you take slowly and easy because if you chomp down on one of the metal balls, Ouch!, you could chip a tooth or worse.
4. If you are a smoker or even if you are a nonsmoker but you actual care about having bad breath you should always brush your barbell when you brush your teeth with your tooth brush so that it does not get plaque build up on it because if proper hygiene is not practiced it will get build up on it. Then always rinse with some mouth wash after brushing to help keep the jewelry clean just like your teeth.
