Home offices have become very popular in the last decade. They have become so popular in fact that when you walk into a person's home, the very first room you encounter will likely be the home office, when in previous decades the first room you cam upon would be the formal living room. If you have found that you have little use for your formal living room, and would like a home office instead, here are some tips you can use:Add Glass Doors to turn your formal living room into a home office: Most formal living rooms are open to the main hall or foyer of the home. To give the room a bit of privacy for the room's occupant, you should have glass doors installed to the room. The width of the entry to most formal living rooms would call for double doors. If the opening to your room is wider, it may call for the doors to be framed in or for side glass panels to be added.
Add Built in shelves or library bookcases to turn your formal living room into a home office: Home offices seem to accumulate large quantities of paperwork and call for tons of organization. For this reason, you will want to build in shelves or purchase library cabinets. For aesthetic reasons, you may want some of the shelves to be hidden behind doors. You will also want to utilize baskets and other organizers for your shelf.
Have the room wired turn your formal living room into a home office: Before you turn your formal living room into a home office, you will want to have phone and internet wiring installed in the room. This would be a good time to evaluate your current home phone service as well as you internet provider. It might make sense to change providers to someone who will install your new wiring free.
Purchase a library table or desk to turn your formal living room into a home office: Since this is still the first room visitors will see, you will want a beautiful desk or library table in the room. Find a table large enough to have your chair on one side, and two visitor chars on the other without overcrowding the room. Be careful not to get a desk so small that it will be dwarfed by the room.
