Typecasting is an ugly word in the movie industry. It means you are so good in one role; the only other roles you can find are similar ones. It happened to Mark Hamil after Star Wars, and it happened to George Reeves after he played Superman.

Today, typecasting isn't as common as it used to be. But, you still have plenty of actors who seem to be stuck in certain roles or genres. However, a few actors possess either amazing acting skills or a certain personality quality that allows them to skip from one genre to the next and play a variety of roles without necessarily reminding you of other roles they've played before.

That's why I would like to present the list of the five most versatile actors currently working in Hollywood.

Johnny Depp - My wife and I often joke that the last "normal" role we saw Depp in was when he was on 21 Jump Street. But, that's what makes him so amazing. Do you need someone to pull of a role with few speaking lines while sporting hands made of sharp knives, Depp's your man. Do you need someone to be a crazed pirate, there are few who could have done better. And, if you need someone to be a singing, murderous barber, who are you going to call? Depp not only has managed to pull off roles like Willie Wonka and Ed Wood, he always manages to put his own little twist on each of them. That's why he always seems to be the first person on director Tim Burton's list.

Brendan Fraser - One of Fraser's first roles had him playing a cave man (Encino Man). Since then, he's done dramas (School Ties), comedies (Airheads), sports movies (The Scout), action films (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns) and has even brought popular cartoon characters like George of the Jungle and Dudley Do-Right to life. Some of his versatility can be seen in one move, Bedazzled, where he plays everything from a drug dealer to a professional basketball player.
