A-Z Homeschooling CD-ROMS

When I started homeschooling, my kids I wanted to make it as much fun as possible. Of course, I wanted them to learn at the same time. I found the CD-Rom educational programs allowed the to learn while enjoying themselves. The only problem I found with these CD-ROMs is that they enjoyed them so much that they went through them rather quickly. Here are some of our favorite CD Rom educational Supplements:

Reader Rabbit has programs for toddlers through 2^nd grade. My kids used Reader Rabbit long before we even considered homeschooling. As young as 18 months old, my kids used the toddler program. It began by teaching mouse and early keyboard skills, and moved on to letters and numbers. Before long, they were learning phonics. We continued using Reader Rabbit programs after we began homeschooling. The children always thought they were playing. Learning never even entered their minds, only it did.

Clue finders are a more grown up version of Reader Rabbit. The goal of the clue finders CD ROMs is to solve a mystery (similar to a Scooby Doo Mystery) by solving a series of math, logic, grammar, geography, and science questions. While the children play the game, the program records their progress. The parent can then view how much the children have learned in a separate readout. There are versions for grade 3 through middle school.

Carmen Sandiego is created by the Learning Company, the same people who made Reader Rabbit and Clue finders. It is patterned after the 1980's cartoon and game show that teaches students geography. This is for grade 3 through middle school.

Oregon Trail has kids to read maps and make decisions as they virtually follow the original Oregon Trail that mapped out the United States. While using this program students learn Geography, US History, Social Studies, critical thinking, managing budget, and more. This game is also available for grade 3 through middle school.
