New Year's 2007-2008 Events in Charleston, South Carolina
Family, Friends, Food and Fun!
There is more going on in Chucktown than a person could hope to accomplish in one fabulous night of partying. Families, visitors and natives alike can experience New Years Eve 2007 as only Charlestonians can provide. One of the most popular events is the free-to-attend sha-bang Charleston puts together for people of all ages and interests: New Year's Charleston! Of course if you want to have something to eat, take home some arts and crafts or have your face painted then you better bring some ducats 'cause that stuff ain't free. (don't ask me, I'm sub-broke)
The New Year's Charleston festivities are scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm with The Have Nots! performing a generous total of four shows at Theatre 99 near Marion Square; the Square being the center of all the evening's activities. There will be different dance troupes performing such as ballet performed by Gaylyn-Laresse Singletary, the Ashley River Creative Arts School will provide dancers of jazz, and the energetic Adande, showing their talents with African dance.
On the main stage at 7:30, will be a salute to Kwanzaa. Then, from 7:30-9:30 pm, under the Square's large tent, you'll find Golden Touch making their Headliner sounds. John Tecklenberg & Friends and the Clay Ross Band will also be playing jazz in the Square itself. Saint Matthew's Church will have Chamber Music Charleston for those of us preferring a more peaceful entry into the next year. However, if it is more of a southern soul-beltin', gospel singing you're looking for, Deliverance will set free their glorious sounds at the Citadel Baptist Church. A few different shows are to be scheduled for each group so everyone that wants a chance to watch should have a chance, just check out the times when you get to the Square.
