Snoop Dogg has been a powerful force on the rap scene for years. His easy tone, smooth lyrics and L.A.-gangster style have kept him popular. However, now, he's taking on a new role. He's playing the part of a caring reality-TV father.

Snoop's reality TV show, Snoop Dogg's Fatherhood, shows a softer side of this rap star. Outside of the occasional curse word, he cleans house, plays with his kids and listens to his wife. He behaves in a way that is opposite of the harsh, misogynistic words often heard in his lyrics.

During the first episode, on the urging of his wife (Shante a.k.a. Boss Lady), he goes to the doctor for a check up. After she pulls out a long syringe, he lets her know about his fear of needles. Snoop Dogg explains that even his little daughter (Chocolate) is braver than he is when it comes to getting shots. Afterwards, he goes on a hilarious journey that takes him to a yoga class and acupuncturist in an effort to get over his fears. It's unclear if he ever really succeeds, but nevertheless, it's funny reality TV.

Seeing the average Joe side of Snoop Dogg is refreshing to the eye. Also, it's obvious that this view along with just the normalcy of his life in general is what the producers of this show are aiming for. They want to show that even rap artists live normal American lives. The unique aspect of Snoop Dogg's Father Hood is that he does introduce the viewer to the meanings and proper use of urban language.

In at least one break in the show, Snoop Dogg introduces his audience to a new urban word. Afterwards, a scene follows in which he uses it. It is the one thing that separates his reality TV show from the rest on the small screen.

So, overall, how does Snoop Dogg's Father Hood rank? For fans of this rapper, it will rank high. For regular folks just trying to sneak a peek into a celebrity's life, it'll be average reality TV fare. You'll definitely laugh at different portions of this show. However, the themes are familiar and ones that affect most of us.

You can catch Snoop Dogg's Father Hood on E!. This show airs every Sunday on 9:30/10:30c. Bring your popcorn, soda and urban language book. Then, enjoy 30 minutes of fun reality TV.
