I regularly drink tea, coffee, and cola, and over the years my teeth have become slightly discolored. I've always wanted to try over-the-counter whitening products, but I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant prices for whitening products that might or might not work. Even if they work, the change won't last forever. Instead of expensive store-bought whitener, I've opted for natural ways to whiten teeth. I believe that natural remedies should be tried before seeking out more expensive options, and the following natural ways to whiten teeth may take a little longer to work, but they'll save a great deal of money over costly store-bought products to whiten the teeth. You have nothing to lose but unsightly stains!

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an all-around fantastic natural home remedy, and it's great for cleaning and whitening a number of surfaces, even teeth! Fluoride toothpaste should still be a part of daily dental hygiene, but baking soda will help whiten and brighten the teeth when used in addition to toothpaste on a regular basis. It will take longer to whiten teeth with baking soda, but it's much cheaper than store-bought tooth whitening products.

Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is a natural acidic, and it can be used periodically to help remove stains and whiten tooth enamel. Continue to brush with fluoride toothpaste as usual, and approximately once a week, brush with a paste made from real lemon juice and baking soda. Brush gently, rinse well, and your teeth will eventually look whiter than ever.

Peroxide Rinse

Many store-bought teeth whitening products contain peroxide, and diluted peroxide can be used to whiten and brighten tooth enamel. Mix peroxide with equal amounts of water, and swish it around in your mouth for several seconds each day. When diluted it won't taste bad, and in addition to whitening the teeth, it will also keep your breath naturally fresh and your mouth exceptionally clean.

These are great natural remedies, although I was once told by my dentist that citrus fruits can damage tooth enamel, so care is needed. Sophie

Sometimes it is the old ideas that work the best, my grandmother told me this one when I was six, lol, long time ago, but she was right!

I like this idea too , I can't see paying the prices they want for the teeth whiteners either.

Excellent article! My mother recommended baking soda years ago and I find it works very well at a fraction of the cost.
