I always dread taking down holiday decorations, but some holiday decorations don't require immediate removal after Christmas is over. I choose to display several of my winter holiday decorations, and they're special decorations that can be used and displayed all winter long. They're decorations that aren't just for Christmas. They're items with a winter theme that can displayed right up until the first day of spring.

Snowflakes

I love snowflakes, and any type of holiday decorations that include beautiful intricate snowflakes are decorations I use all winter long. I have eye-catching plastic snowflakes hanging in my front window, and although I bought them around the time I put up my Christmas decorations, I plan on keeping my beautiful bluish tinted snowflakes in my window until spring. Snowflakes aren't just for Christmas. They're a wonderful symbol of winter and a work of natural art, and they add a little more joy to the coldest season of the year.

Icicles

Beautiful crystal or plastic icicles are also a winter symbol, and they don't have to come down when holiday decorations are put away. I have many beaded icicles made by my mother-in-law, and I hang them in sunny windows throughout my home. I also have crystal icicles that look very real, and I surround the beaded icicles with the crystal versions. They're beautiful winter decorations that stay up all winter long, and I look forward to hanging them at the end of each fall season.

Snowmen

Who can resist a cute snowman all decked out in his top hat, scarf, and coal black buttons? I love snowmen, and snowwomen, and I've made them a part of my winter decorations that stay up long after Christmas. As long as snow is a possibility, and as long as the winter winds blow, I'll decorate with snow people until it's time to get out the spring decorations.

You are so right in stating that we should have decorations up longer than normal.

I've heard there is a fad of leaving up your Christmas trees, then decorating them for Valentine's Day. Sort of like Valentine's trees. Any comments?

Some of mine were up well into April last year...but then I was distracted by life events;)

My mom collects snowmen and she always asks us to get her ones that don't have any telltale Christmas items on them so she can leave them out all winter.

Very good suggestions, I can see how these can all be used throughout the entire winter.

*LOL* Lenora! I think someone should write an article on ways to keep your artificial tree up all year long. It's actually not a bad idea! ;-)
