Should We Design a Baby or Not

First of all every scientist should take note of the extent of knowledge he is possessing about life, before he speaks of designing babies and determining human life. Our knowledge of life and nature is only superficial.

As a scientist, a researcher who spent several years in tissue culture and cloning, I admit that our knowledge of life is very much superficial. It needs a sacrificial strength to admit it. We still do not have answers to simple questions why gene is a triplet code? Why genes exist as pairs - one dominant the other recessive? Why DNA is double helical? Why mitotic and meiotic divisions and so on. We speak of information but we do not have true knowledge of information. Personally I do not appreciate speaking of designing human babies and determining life and its destiny sitting on top of such ignorance.

It should be remembered that, the foundation of biology exist closely related to the physical science, which has lost its own foundation and left humanity dangling in mid air about the reality of nature. Today the mind of humanity exists without a plat form to work upon. The reckless exploitation of partial knowledge contributed by physical science is already hanging as a dragger on top of us virtually endangering the existence of humanity. Clear signs of catastrophic climate change and possible annihilation of humanity exist when we debate on physical manipulation of genes and information to engineer designer babies through genetic manipulation. It amounts to individuals trying to build small boats out of a big ship when a storm is ahead!!!!. I believe an industry is surviving feeding on human ignorance and his mind and self centered life.

It should be noted that modern genetics is built on the concept of predictability and mechanistic view of physical science. The mechanistic and predictable view of physical science is dead. Biologist who speaks of designer baby industry only can be compared to vultures that feed on the dead. What good explanation can exist in proposing to build on a foundation which is known to be broken.
