Looking for a spring break destination that is similar to Mexico? Looking for a place to spend spring break that feels more like home, and even better, is a little more safe? Looking for a spring break destination where you don't have to worry about vendors constantly attacking you with their newest merchandise? Then maybe it's time to try Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has all the joys of traveling to a foreign country, without any of the hassles. You can skip renewing your passport, or even applying for a passport because Puerto Rico is considered a territory of the US. As long as you have a valid driver's license from the US, you're safe to travel south to Puerto Rico. The big difference is that in Puerto Rico the legal drinking age is 18. All your college friends planning to head there for Spring Break will love that one!

First place to hit on your Spring Break in Puerto Rico? One of the local casinos. These casinos have slot machines, but also some great poker games running in the evening hours. During the Spring Break season these games are predominantly taken over by college kids. It's a great way to meet new people, make some friends, and find out where the hot spots in town are.

Then it's time to see some of the culture that Puerto Rico has to offer, and yes there is more to Spring Break than just parties. There's the El Yunque Rainforest, which is rapidly disintegrating every year and Old San Juan. Old San Juan is one of the locations that all travelers visit while in the area, if only for the historic buildings that are open to the public. Or you can head out to the Arecibo Radio Telescope where portions of the hit film Goldeneye was filmed. Kick back with some friends and see who can do the best James Bond impression.
