How to Generate Food-Related Ideas

You love to cook. You love collecting cookbooks and recipes. In fact, you love everything about food. So much so, that you'd love to write about it. You'd even love to be a food writer for a popular magazine. Unfortunately, you can't seem to come up with many topic ideas. You aren't even sure where to being to come up with more ideas.

Being a food writer requires creativity. Food writers must always have their minds open to new ideas that come along. But, there are a few sources that always generate great ideas for food writers.

The first source to start out with is magazines. Look at the magazines you'd love to write for. Are there topics that you feel may add to the popularity of the magazine? As a reader, what would you like to see? After giving this some clever thought, choose one of those topics and write about it. Even if you're looking for topic ideas for another company, magazines are always a great source. You'd be amazed at the number of ideas one issue of a magazine can generate.

Another great source for food writers is the TV. Food writers should tune into popular networks, like Food Network and Discovery Home. Many of the shows on these networks will quickly generate topic ideas. But, the shows are the only source that will give a food writer great ideas. Even commercials are a great source that to spark a food writer's imagination. You may be inspired to write a product review or even discuss different brands of a popular product.

Cookbooks can also be a great source for food writers. If you're the type of person who loves to curl up with a good cookbook, and look through every recipe and written word, then be sure to keep a notepad handy. Some of the best cookbook sources for food writers are cookbooks that are filled with not only recipes, but stories behind the recipes and about the author as well.
