Icy Road, Bad Weather, Lack of Plowing Sends Denver AC Producer into Snow Bank

For the past two weeks leading up to and even on Christmas day (an unusual treat for the mile high city) we in Denver have had snow. It was the White Christmas snow that affected me.

On Friday the 28th I was traveling eastward towards I-25 on the US highway 36 (the Denver-Boulder turnpike) when I hit an icy patch of ice and just slid. In a matter of seconds I managed to cross from the left lane all the way over to the shoulder and crash into a snowbank created by the snowplows. I knew that we we're driving on a sheet of ice and tried to leave space but as in every big city it was morning (around 8:00) and every time a space opened, two cars was trying to squeeze into it.

This situation left me too close to stop and I ended up in the snowbank. While I like the fact that the snowplows plow the roads that day they did not sufficiently plow the roads to get rid of all the snow leaving a perilous situation for me. I can say that while 3 cops drove by eventually "Courtesy Patrol" the government funded system to help motorists in peril did finally show up and using the "back and forth" method drove me out.

I got on my way again and safely arrived without further event. I was very glad for their help and I for one will never complain about the taxes that go to pay for Courtesy Patrol. I managed to escape the situation with nothing more than a broken bumper corner (of an already damaged body part) and a flat tire that I easily re-aired.

But I thought that it brought up a great point about the lack of planning on the part of the C-DOT (Colorado Department of Transportation) regarding the snow plows that let Denver morning rush hour slog through barely plowed roads on sheets of ice. Besides my run in with the snow bank there were several other accidents on the beltway (C-470) and both major interstates (I-25 and I-70).

The snow was an inconvenient truth and with all this snow and the fact that as of this writing it is only 15 degrees, where is global warming when we need it?
