Having lived in the St Louis, Missouri area for most of my life, I have had a loyalty to Anheuser Busch. My first beer was a Bud Light, and Bud Light became my beer of choice. I never entertained the idea of another beer until I was out with friends one day and they were all drinking Miller Lite. There was a rather large group of us, so it made sense to order beer by the pitcher. I was feeling rather adventerous that day and decided to give Miller Light a try. I figured if I hated it I wouldn't have to drink anymore and if I liked it then I had a back up beer in case I ever went somewhere that didn't have Bud Light. Needless to say I enjoyed Miller Lite and was pleased that I gave it a chance.

Miller Lite is brewed by the Miller Brewing Company from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They were founded in 1855 by a German immigrant named Frederick Miller. Miller began his brewing legacy by purchasing a small brewery for $2300. The Miller Brewing Company has been thru many changes since that time to grown into the 2nd largest brewery in the US.

Well over 30 years ago Miller Lite was introduced. It was the first lite beer. It is brewed using choice hops and a relative of the yeast that Frederick Miller hand picked and brought over from Germany well over 100 years ago. Miller Lite is only 96 calories and has roughly 3 grams of carbs per 12 oz serving. The catch phrase for this beer is Tastes Great, Less Filling. I remember the catchy commercials with 2 teams of people going back and forth chanting Tastes Great, Less Filling. I am still often amused with their commercials and other various marketing campaigns.

When I first tried Miller Light that day I of course had it poured from a frosty pitcher into a frosty mug. The taste was very smooth and crisp and my pallate was definitely pleased. This is not your typical lite beer. It has a nice full bodied taste. I enjoyed the beer so much that the next few times I went out I had it served in a bottle and Miller Lite has since become my beer of choice.

Takeaways
  • The beer we drink today was introduced to us by German immigrants
  • Hops give beer its flavoring
  • Light beer can be good for those on low carb diets

I perfer Miller lite because of the low carb. I did drink Busch beer for year. You know what they say: some guys perfer a Busch some guys perfer a Bud even thou there is nothing wrong with a guy that perfers a Bud.

Miller Lite has an awful after taste and is my last beer of choice. Try Bud Select for a more full bodied beer with less carbs.
