As I'm writing this, Sony is still on top of the video game world. With over 100 million PS2's sold, we all have one. I play my PS2 daily and I have a PSP. But after the price announcement at E3 I don't know if I'll be able to afford to stay with Sony on the next-gen bandwagon. A $499 price tag means that if you ask for that for Christmas 2006 then THAT"S ALL YOU'RE GETTING! No action figures, no clothes, nothing else but the PS3.

And then tack on a game or two to that and you're looking at asking your mom and dad to shell out almost $700 for your Christmas. i don't think Sony is looking at who their core market is. The PS3 is now like buying a Lexus. It looks nice on the outside. It has pretty games, but are they going to be that fun out of the gate? And with the new Dual Shake controller which from reports was added two weeks before E3, will it be all that? Or are we buying into a over-priced lemon?

So if you want a PS3 you better start saving ALL your pennies, beg your mom daily, and start eating cheese and crackers for lunch.

Sony's top guy, Ken Kutaragi, even goes as far to say ""It's probably too cheap."

Here are his words of wisdom, as translated by consumer website IGN:

"This is the PS3 price. Expensive, cheap — we don't want you to think of it in terms of game machines. Because the PS3 is like nothing else."

"For instance, is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

"When we announced the PlayStation price, it was said to be expensive. Same for the PlayStation 2. However, when released, both had sales that were unthinkable for previous game machines. This is because both offered experiences that could not be had on previous game machines."

The PS3 is not as powerful as the 360. Its twice as powerful. No more long loading times. If you've played The Elder Scrolls IV on the 360, and saw how long the loading times are, then imagine playing it on the ps3. Half the loading times off.

Face it guys, the PS3 is not a game machine for kids. It is for adults with deeper pockets then the average Joe. First of all, the price of $600. Expensive?, NOT at all. It is very cheap. A Blu-Ray Player alone cost $1000. THe PS3 has one built in. Second of all, The next-Gen graphics require some heavy duty equipment. To gain the 1080p HDTV format you will nned to spend atleast $3000 for a 1080p HDTV Television. Cheapest choice will be the DLP Rear Projection TVs. Next you will need to get a good Audio reciever+speaker system ~$1000. This will produce true Digital Audio. Also make sure your cables are all fiber. HDMI for Video signal and Optical for Audio signal. Now you are set... In closing, a true PS3 experience requires alot of new expensive hardware. I already spent a little over $7500 for the hardware. When PS3 comes out I am ready for the experience. For the average Joe you will spend close to $5000 to truely experience the 1080p/Digital Audio experience.

For what its worth, those same 100million people who had Playstation1 are now old enough that they have jobs and are probably buying Lexuses and Toyotas. YOU are not the one thinking of who their fanbase is, not Sony. Sony knows exactly who's showing up to buy PS3. I'm glad they've made a system that has grown up as my needs for entertainment have grown.

The ps3 and xbox 360 games may be almost the same at first, but in a year or two ps3 games will be way bigger and will have better graphics, and there will be a different ps3 version instaed of the same game on different consoles.

Yes the price is to high, Sony fans who cant jump off the bandwagon that is the playstation will say how the value is worth it because of HD support and Blue Ray etc. Fact is HD isnt all that important to most consumers, HD still hasnt penetrated deeply into the consumer market will be another 4-5 years before it does. And Blue Ray is still unproven against HD-DVD (Actually several websites have shown HD-DVD to be better) Not to mention the fact that Sony has a bad track record of hardware stability. What it all comes down to is the average consumer, And the average consumer isnt going to shell out $600-$700 for a PS3 and 1 game. :)
