Senator Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) has been doing some serious statewide sprinting in the closing moments of the Iowa caucus race. An underdog in the race, he's made 28 stops in 26 cities in 5 days and actually moved his immediate family members to a home in Des Moines. Dodd spent time in Davenport, Iowa, at Kilkenney's Restaurant and Bar on West 3rd Street at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) on Tuesday, January 1st.

Dodd is not alone in his last-minute rallies. Senator Joseph Biden (D, Delaware) will hold a rally at 1:30 p.m. at Mojo's Coffee House in Davenport the very day of the caucuses (Thursday, January 3rd.) You can almost imagine a candidate speaking to a busload of supporters driving to the 6:30 p.m. start time of the Iowa caucuses. ("My fellow Americans,.... errr, Iowans. When you get off the bus, remain firm. Don't let those other sweet talkers in that gym dissuade you.").

Dodd, Biden and Richardson (not to mention Kucinich, although we should) are underdogs in the Democratic caucus race, at this point. But they can still be King...or Queen...makers. The Republicans have their Ron Pauls, successful at fund-raising, anyway, and their Huckabees, schlepping around the state with only a handful of campaign workers (14, one source said) while Romney had 92 family members, alone, working the Iowa straw poll in Ames.

If money talks, certainly Romney's spending over $11.9 million on TV spots in Iowa, alone, must echo loudly. The other half of that saying (about "Money talks") might be the non-candidacy of Alan Keyes on the Republican side. Nobody even knew Keyes was a candidate until he (somehow) found his way onto the stage of the Des Moines Register televised Republican debate from Johnston, Iowa. (And an angrier candidate, in either party, you cannot find.)

In retrospect: If the numbers I saw are correct many more people in Iowa caucused for Republicans. Huckabee's win there scares me, because of the Religious right insistence that there is one way their way. The US has become so much like Nazi Germany I am terrified of my country people and government.
