Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn to Divorce

Indy film superstar and political activist, Sean Penn and his actress wife, Robin Wright Penn, have announced that they are getting divorced. The news was confirmed by their representative and reported in the National Enquirer.

Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn have been married for eleven years and have two children. Sean Penn first gained fame in 1982 when he starred as stoned surfer, Jeff Spicoli in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High." Prior to that, he had some brief appearances on television, including "Little
House On The Prairie" where he was uncredited.

After "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," Penn began to get more film offers. One of his more brilliant performances was as Brad Whitewood, Jr. in "At Close Range," with Christopher Walken.

During the 1980s, Penn garnered dubious fame when he married singer Madonna. The two had a tumultuous relationship that ended in divorce. He met Robin Wright when she starred opposite of him in "State of Grace," in 1990.

Robin Wright Penn was a soap star on Santa Barbara before landing the role in "The Princess Bride" as Princess Buttercup, a move that launched her film career. She has played in a series of uneventful films over the past few years.

Both Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn have films that are in pre-production or are scheduled to be released in 2008.

Despite the fact that Sean Penn's marriage to Madonna was so public and very rocky, his marriage to Robin Wright appeared to have calmed him. Once known for beating up paparazzi, Penn and Madonna were known as "the poison Penns" in their day. Upon his fatherhood and marriage to Robin Wright, who changed her name to Robin Wright Penn, he appeared to have found tranquility.

There is no reason stated as to why the couple split. Unlike his relationship with Madonna, in which she accused him of tying her to a chair and holding a gun to her head, his relationship with Robin Wright Penn has been less dramatic and public. The couple's publicist stated that the pending divorce was "amicable."

Good update. Maybe Hugo Chavez had hooked Penn up with his sister.

It's always sad to see a marriage dissolve, even when I didn't know the couple. :-(
