Bronchial Asthma disease occurs when airways constrict in the respiratory system. In the United States, approximately 20 million people and almost nine million children have been diagnosed with asthma. The airways get narrow because of an increase in mucus narrowing the airways and less air flows through to the lungs. The restriction of the airway passage is triggered by exposure to an environmental stimulate such as allergens (dust mites, animal dander, cockroaches, Pollen from trees and grass, and mold), cold air, and irritants (cigarette smoke, scented products, air pollution, and odors from paint or cooking, strong emotions of laughter, crying and stress) causing Bronchial Hyperactivity (BHR). Also, asthma maybe caused by a reaction to medications, infections, and gastroesophageal disease (Reflux disease causing heartburn and increase asthma symptoms, especially at night).

Asthma in children is commonly caused by a viral illness such as a cold. Symptoms include shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness and coughing. Asthma is not curable but can be controlled by medication. Asthma patients can have normal lives going to school or work. Responding quickly when symptoms start develop, avoids the peril of a severe asthma episode, which may require immediate medical attention or else be life threatening. Statistically, more boys have asthma than girls, and during adulthood more women have asthma than men. Thirty percent chance of inheriting asthma, one parent has the disease and a seventy percent when both parents have asthma.
