Keeping your baby safe is not only a parental obligation but something you should enjoy. Small children are very inquisitive and can manage to get themselves into all kinds of trouble in just a short amount of time. It is impossible to constantly have an eye on your child, but childproofing your home can definitely buy you some peace of mind. One of the most dangerous rooms in the house can be your bathroom!

Fortunately, there are many products on the market today that were specifically designed to make your bathroom safer for your little wanderer. First and foremost, children should never be allowed into the bathroom with parental supervision. There are just too many potential hazards for a little one. You can always use a safety gate to keep baby from entering into the bathroom. Simply place the gate between the outer door frame. Adults will still be able to easily step over the gate and into the bathroom. You should also be able to still close the bathroom door with the child safety gate in place. If you cannot afford a baby gate or do not want to use one, you can always invest in door latches that prevent your child from opening the door on their own.

One of the most intriguing things in the bathroom to a child seems to be the toilet. There is nothing more interesting to a little one than the fun of swirling water. Keep in mind that the biggest safety risk a toilet poses to your child is not the fact of coming into contact with germs alone, but the possibility of drowning. Remember that a child can drown in as little as two inches of water. There are several excellent toilet latches out there on the market right now. Most use suction cups to secure the latch arm to the toilet. I recommend looking for a toilet latch that has a spring loaded mechanism that will automatically lock each time the toilet lid is closed.

Takeaways
  • Children can drown in as little as 2 inches of water.
  • Door latches are a must for any bathroom.
  • Your bathroom can be a safe place for your child.
