There once was a used car salesman named Joe Blow. Joe loved to sell cars that were basically lemons. The engines needed repairing and the transmissions typically were faulty. Joe was dishonest and sold his used cars cheaply with no guarantee once they were driven off the lot. One day, a little old man walked up to Joe. He said, "How much do you want for that red car with the fancy wheels?" Joe looked the car over and remarked, "You seem like a nice man. I'll make a special deal with you. For only $1,500, you can drive this car right off the lot."
The old man looked the car over carefully. "Anything wrong with this vehicle?"
Joe shook his head no. Of course, Joe was lying. The transmission was bad. The brakes were shot. It needed a new muffler. The cost to repair this car would be at least $3,000.
"I'll take it," said the old man. "I just want you to know that if this car is no good, I will turn you into a weasel."
Joe just laughed. "I've been turned into a lot of things but never a weasel."
The next day the little old man came back to the used car dealership. He was angry and let Joe have it. "This car is nothing but a hunk of junk. There are all kinds of repairs that need to be made. I had this car thoroughly examined. I want my money back."
Joe was amused by this old man. "I'm sorry but once you take a car off this lot, it's your responsibility to take care of it. Now please leave, I have other customers to attend to."
The little old man looked straight at Joe and said, "You have swindled your last customer. From this day forward, you shall be a weasel." In a flash, Joe changed from a con man into a weasel.
A little boy saw the weasel and spoke up, "Say pop, there goes the weasel."
The car salesman remained a weasel for the rest of his life. As for the little old man, he turned out to be Merlin the Magician. The used car dealership went out of business. In the end, there was no joy in Car a Lot.
