I entered my local supermarket in a wonderful mood. The sun was out and so was my happy nature. Shopping was not my thing, but today I would walk around and look at what was on offer in the clothes section, as I had bought a dress that needed to be returned. I looked into the mirror at my reflection, checking my hair was in place. I walked past the customer service desk. There was a man standing behind it next to a middle aged woman. The cue was considerably long. I waited in line just like everyone else. It was hot inside. I took a drink from my bottle of water.
I watched the young man behind the desk. He was tall with brown hair and blue eyes. He was handsome and my kind of man. I wondered whether he had a girlfriend. I looked at his left hand and saw that he didn't wear a ring.
I stared at him and then he looked up. I quickly turned my head the other way, so he wouldn't notice me. He'd seen and served me many times, but he didn't once acknowledge me or ask me anything. Anyway, I was a stranger to him and he was always busy doing his job.
I was fed up waiting in the cue and walked off to pick another item of clothing. I took a short cut through the cold food section and hurried to get to the next isle. I rushed myself straight over and lost my balance. I dropped my bag, then I slipped on a wet floor. My legs went up into the air and I felt my back hit the ground. My right ankle twisted. I screamed. The pain was intolerable and I began to feel sick. A woman came to my aid and shouted for help.
Lying there, I heard a lady's voice on a loud speaker.
"Richard to the cold food section with first aid!"
I wanted to laugh at the words, but instead I could only smile. I didn't want anyone to think that I was faking the accident. Anyway, there was water everywhere on the floor. It was a hazard for anyone.
By now a crowd had formed around me. Nobody could pass through while I lay on the ground blocking it's entrance. It wasn't long until Richard, the first aid man appeared with a box. It was the same man I'd seen behind the Customer Service desk.
"Okay everyone time to move on. There's nothing to see here. Come on carry on with your shopping please while I attend to this lady."
