“You are giving my girlfriend and me a ride to the movies Friday night, aren't you?” Jake asked as he leaned through the window of my Rabbit. "I'm sure you can get a date by then."

It had been one of those Mondays that had dragged on and on at Riverton High and the last thing I needed was Jake bugging me about taking him and his new girlfriend to the only surviving drive-in movie theater in town. Not because it was old and somewhat dilapidated, but because I didn't have a girlfriend to take. I knew the reason he wanting to go to the drive-in. He want to be able to kiss his girlfriend without anyone bothering him. But I didn't want to sit there like a idiot while he and his girlfriend were all lovey-dovey. So the minute Jake started badgering me about taking him and his girlfriend I told him I would not do it without a date.

“I’m not exactly Don Juan, you know,” I said and slid the key into the ignition in hopes that would get Jake to back away from my car so I could leave.

“Neither am I and I get girls to go out with me,” Jake said as if he knew the secret to every girl's heart.

“No date, no ride,” I said and fired up my Rabbit. "And it looks like I'm not going to have a date. If you would have asked sooner, maybe I would have had time to find someone."

“A week should be plenty of time.” Jake stood back and ran his fingers through his black hair. “I'll even bet I can find someone you can take by the end of the week.”

"Really?" I asked and slipped the car into gear. "That's fine as long as she's not ugly." I said and drove out of the school's parking lot.

I had never had a blind date before, but all of Jake's past girlfriend had been pretty cute, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with a date he would set me up with - unless he decided to be a jerk about. And I didn't think that would happen since he knew I would never drive him anywhere again. I had worked hard the summer before so I could buy my first car. I didn’t like friends taking advantage of me just because I had it. Jake knew how I felt about that.

Jake avoided the subject all week until Thursday, the day before his big date.

Thanks for your comment, Mommy2Lots. I thought most people would read this as pure fiction. However, since you asked, I will tell you the story is based on truth. I didn't get my driver's license until I was 17. My birthday isn't until the end of summer. To reveal a bit of fiction in the story, it was not my first car, so adding up those facts, I had to have been 18. And the woman was most definitely in her late 20s or early 30s. However, I have always looked about 5 years younger than I am, so you can imagine how that would look. (When I was 18 a girl, who was about the same age, said to me, "Go away, little boy.")

Cute Story, but I'm not so sure I like the idea of a 30 year old wanting to date a teenager. I hope you were over 18. Not insulting you, just an adult who would date someone under 18 if that was even the age. Great story, though. I enjoyed reading it. :)
