Nicolas Sarkozy Loves 'Em, Leaves 'Em, and Then Repeats - or Tries To

Nicolas Sarkozy is the French President who was elected in May of 2007. His personal life reads like a transcript of the old "Dallas." Not divorced until 1996, he is known to have had a relationship with his second wife since about 1988, only to dissolve that marriage in 2007. In between are allegations of marital unfaithfulness, reconciliation, and an ultimate parting of the ways.

Yet not long after the ink has dried on Mr. Sarkozy's divorce decree, he is intimately linked with another beauty who has been spending a lot of time at his vacation spots. Add to this the fact that he freely and happily poses with her for photographers, as a 12-27-07 article in L'Express showcases, and it is not much of a guess that there is a new lady love - and perhaps wife number three - in the cards for the French President.

Much closer to home, San Francisco's 42^nd mayor (elected in 2003) is also ringing in the New Year with a new love. Once divorced in 2005, he has been romantically linked since about October 2006, if one may believe the San Francisco Chronicle, with actress Jennifer Siebel. The Chronicle also reported on 01-01-08 that the Mayor has officially announced his engagement to Ms. Siebel although a date for nuptials has not yet been set.

Having weathered the much publicized Rippey-Tourk affair which left a black eye on the appealing image Mr. Newsome thus far was able to portray, the news of an engagement to a most pleasant young woman is a welcome diversion from the sometimes ugly trappings of politics and personal shortfalls.

Of course, politicians are not strangers to romance and perhaps the only reason why both the French President and the San Francisco Mayor are getting front page treatment may be found in the fact that their highly visible romances are occurring while in office.
