Valentine's Day Crafts for Seniors and Kids: Easy Photo Collage Magnets
Photo collage magnets are the perfect easy Valentine's Day craft for seniors and kids to make together. This easy Valentine's Day craft
is perfect for seniors and kids of all ages because it does not require any standing, extreme dexterity, or range of motion that many seniors or young children can not accomplish.
To Make Easy Heart Photo Collage Magnets You Will Need:
Photos
Decoupage
Heart Wood Cut outs
Magnet strips
Paintbrush
Scissors (optional)
To get started have everyone get out some of their favorite photos. You can also use any photos cut out from magazines.
Take your photos ad have them copied at the local copy store so you do not have to ruin the originals.
Now, you will need large wood heart cut outs. About three inches tall and wide will work best. Look for thin heart cut outs that are light weight, but have a good amount of surface area.
While the heart is plain wood go ahead and glue on a strip of magnetic stripping to the back. Cut a simple one inch length and glue it onto the back.
While the glue is drying start cutting up the photos. You want to create a layered look, which is what a collage is. You can also rip out portions of a photo to get nice rough edges.
Try cutting and ripping out parts of the images you want, like faces, specific places, and even words. If seniors can hold on to scissors because of arthritis, then ripping may be a better option. This may also be better for younger children.
Paint a layer of decoupage medium on to the heart. Press the cut out photos and images on to the front of the heart magnets.
Paint more decoupage on top to adhere the cola well to the heart magnet.
Now, have yoru seniors and kids flip the heart over. Paint the back edges with the decoupage. Fold the edges of the overhanging photos around to the back and press down.
This will create the neat edges of the heart and cover all of the wood visible from the front.
Let all of the decoupage medium dry. This will take about 30 minutes. While the paint is drying you can start cleaning up all the scraps of paper left behind.
