There is no doubt that scientist will discover many things in the year. However, there are many things that are in the works to be launched, crafted, built, burned, written, bought, created, and achieved in the year 2008. Here are the 12 Highly Anticipated Science and Technology breakthroughs of 2008.

Anticipated Science and Technology breakthroughs of 2008 #1- One Laptop per Child

2008 will mark the first year of the One Laptop per Child project. One Laptop per Child will be giving laptops to children in other countries to include South America, South East Asia and Africa. The new style laptops will be known to many as the "green machines" and cost $200. Which includes the rechargeable battery, AC adapter, solar power connector, hand-crank, pull cord and foot pedal.

Anticipated Science and Technology breakthroughs of 2008 #2 -Tesla's Electric Roadster

Tesla's Electric Roadster will be one of the most sought after sports vehicles of 2008. That is, if you can afford it. The 2008 Tesla Electric Roadster will be sold for nearly $100,000. Not bad for a fully electric car that can go from 0-60 in 4 seconds.

Anticipated Science and Technology breakthroughs of 2008 #3 - Chandrayaan-1

The Chandrayaan-1, the first unmanned spacecraft designed to orbit the moon will conduct research on the moon and create a 3-D image of its surface. India plans to launch the CHandrayaan-1 in April of 2008.

Alaska Airlines will be releasing the first ever Web-enabled airplane. They will allow satellites to be linked on board WI-FI.

Anticipated Science and Technology breakthroughs of 2008 #5 - KSTAR to Test 18 Million Degree F Plasma

The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research project will created plasmas that get as hot as 18 million degrees Fahrenheit. The plasmas are used to generate energy from Fusion. The tests are used to provide data to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor.

Great article! These technology breakthroughs are truly something to anticipate. I have a question you might be able to help me with though: the "One Laptop per Child", can regular people by those? I'll be spending significant time in Africa soon, and probably without steady electricity. I'd love to be able to buy one of those laptops. Let me know of any links where I can find more info. Thanks!
