Now that the holidays are over, everyone is beginning to settle back into their normal lives without the hectic pace and overwhelming stress. One way that I unwind from the holidays is through the pure escapism of film.

It looks like 2008 may be a good year for Hollywood and it's about time. Last year's crop of movies had a few winners, one or two stunning masterpieces, and a lot of fantasy fun. However, over all, it wasn't the film industry's strongest year.

The focus for the coming year appears varied, with some drama, comedy, fantasy, horror, sci-fi and more. Here is a list of the movies scheduled for release in February, 2008:

The Eye stars Jessica Alba as Sydney Wells. Sydney is a well-established concert violinist with a bit of a handicap. She is blind. However, science has progressed to the point where it can offer her hope to see again through a double corneal transplant. The surgery works and restores the sight that Sydney has missed all her life.

What should be a happy time for the young woman, however, proves to be anything but when she begins seeing shadowy figures and frightening images. Both Sydney and her family begin to question her state of mind. However, Sydney isn't willing to accept her fate and goes in search of answers. Could those answers lie with her eye donor?

The plot to this movie is nothing new. It has been played both on the big screen and through television film. So the fate of this movie rests squarely in the hands of its young star. Alba has the acting chops to pull it off it she doesn't go overboard or lose her focus.

Alba's television turn as "Dark Angel" was excellent but some of her big screen performances in the past have proven lackluster. Can she turn on the charm and talent to make this film a success? Only time will tell.

The Eye is scheduled to premier February 1, 2008.

Over Her Dead Body also premiers the same weekend. This film, which is a mix of comedy, fantasy, and romance stars small screen divas Eva Longoria, of "Desperate Housewifes" fame and Lake Bell of the short-term sci-fi series "Surface."

Sounds like some winners and some losers. I wonder, Jumper sounds like an older movie I've seen, but can't recall the name of; is it a remake? Thanks for the sneak peeks!

I like the sound of "The Eye". That's the sort of plot that I would enjoy, as well as cry through! Sophie

These sound great. But the Kate Hudson one sounds like a remake of "Ten ways to break up with a guy". And the movie poster makes her look about 8 inches taller!
