The news broke December 18 with an exclusive interview from OK magazine that 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears, star of the hit Nickelodeon television series Zoey 101 is pregnant. The shocking thing is, there is little outcry or worry from fans or parents.

Her sister's indiscretions aside, we should be able to expect more from our children's role models. Perhaps it is because of the fact that the current season of Zoey 101 will be drew to a close last week with no scheduled return date due to the writer's strike. Unfortunately, the current strike situation can only benefit young Spear's delicate situation because if the strike proves to be ongoing the network could easily wait out the pregnancy and start filming fresh in 9 months. It'll take that long to get the new episodes written anyway. Yet one more reason to hope for a quick and amicable end to the writer's strike.

Why is it that pregnancy among the Hollywood elite had become so rampant? The last few years there had been a plethora of "unexpected" and "unmarried" celebrity pregnancies.

It there no birth control in California? Is one of the richest, most medically advanced states in the union incapable of providing it's citizens with basic contraceptive education. You can't tell me that these celebrities, who are paid in the millions for their work can't afford the luxury of a small orange pill that millions around the country get for free.

And where is the outcry from fans? Nickelodeon has only issued supportive statements about Spear's situation and yet there are no blogs denouncing the loss of yet another celebrity role model. Why are parents not reacting? Are they confident that their internet and television monitoring skills are sufficient in keeping their children unaware of situation? After all of the controversy and pain and toil that we took to discredit older sister Brittany for her many mothering shortcomings are we actually going to give Jamie Lynn a free pass?
