When I first heard of the Sandisk Sansa TakeTV, I thought "Finally an easy to use TV to PC converter that doesn't cost much." I'm here to tell you I was wrong. Luckily I didn't buy it. After reading more about this, TakeTV seems to be just about the most pointless invention I've ever heard of. It allows you to take video files from your computer, kind of like a flash drive, and lets you plug into your TV and watch those clips on your TV. Now it's not a bad concept but seems almost pointless.

With burnable media becoming cheaper by the day, it would be cheaper to burn you video clips onto a CD or DVD. TakeTV supports MPEG-4, Divx, and a few others. The problem is that many videos available on the internet are in formats that are not supported such as WMV. And although you have the capacity to put maybe 3 Full length DVD movies onto this TakeTV, trying to hack and work through all the copy protection is not only illegal but time consuming. The Sandisk TakeTV is only available in 4GB and 8GB. If I were to own this, I would definitely want more than 8GB for $150.

Now you'd think that for such a price and with capabilities to plug into both the TV and the computer you could do just the opposite. Wrong, all you can do is take videos from your PC and watch them on your TV. Now if you could take video clips from your TV and transfer them to the PC that would change my view of this product entirely. It's basically a storage device for videos. If the videos were worth saving though, I'd burn them onto disc.

Well others give this product a 3.5 out of 5, I would probably give this a .5 or less. To me this just seems to be useless and a plain old waste of money. When I can take as many videos as my computer will hold of my TV and have them converted into HD, then record them onto disc or just keep them on my PC for a later date all for under $100, this seems like an absolute waste.

To some the Sandisk Sansa TakeTV may be great, but this is just not even close to something that would interest me and it's just not what I'm looking for. I hope this review has helped you choose whether or not to buy this product.

I work in sales and travel. I bring what I care to watch on my hotel's flat panel. Love it. For this niche it works.

I love the taketv. I store all of my videos on a firewire drive and just drag them over as needed. When i bought it, i thought it had MPEG-4 support, but apparently it only supports DiVX and Xvid. Other than that, no complaints.
