Long distance relationships require constant effort at staying connected. Valentine's Day is no exception and with a little extra bit of planning, can still be a special day for lovers even if they can't be together.

Many of the estimated 2 million couples that live apart for work reasons, will not be able to physically be with their sweetie this year. Here are a few suggestions for separated valentines to go above the daily phone calls to really reach out and say I love you in a special way.

1. Ship a Romantic Care Package

Sending some tangible love via the United States Postal System will take some advanced planning and effort on your part but it will be well worth it. Try to plan the shipment to arrive on or before Valentine's Day. This is one time when earlier is better then later!

Hearts and chocolate and teddy bears are all really nice things but an even more special theme for connecting with your loved one is from the heart. Make something handmade for your sweetie. Sew a pillowcase, knit a scarf, paint a hand sculpted clay heart, draw a picture or write them a song and record yourself singing. If you are not crafty, try writing a poem or putting together a small scrapbook of favorite photos and memories of the two of you. Put together a package that will make them smile when opened.

When you miss your lover so much, even your nose can miss them. Send them the tee shirt you slept in last night so they can cuddle up with it and breathe in your aroma. Smells have powerful connections and can provoke strong memories.

Personalize your romantic care package to suit your loved one and it will make their day so very special. Remember to include a love note and seal it with a kiss.

2. Email a Love Note

Send sweet sayings all day long. Really, you cannot say I love you enough on V-day. Nothing can be over done so be sure to email love notes to their personal, work accounts as well as posting love on their myspace page and blog. Just pop up everywhere to send your love.

3. Send Organic Flowers
