If you and your family are looking to add a pet to the family why not consider adopting a pet. If you happen to live in or near the New York City area than there are a lot of places that you can visit in order to adopt the pet of your choice. Following is a list of five of the top adoption shelters in the New York City area. Keep in mind that there are fees associated with each adoption.

The first adoption shelter on the list is the ASPCA. Many know the ASPCA very well, and you have probably seen the numerous commercials that come on a regular basis. ASPCA stands for The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The have several locations but the one in New York City is located at 424 E. 92nd St., NYC, NY 10128. The adoption center is open from Monday through Saturday: 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. and on Sundays: 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Their telephone number is (212) 876-7700, ext. 4120. Since they are a adoption shelter for animals, the animals that are available does change frequently. When it comes to cats they currently have well over fifty cats that are available for adoption. When it comes to dogs however they currently only have thirteen listed, but keep in mind that this number does change frequently. Just to give you and idea of what dogs are available here is a brief list; Vanessa, ten year old Labrador mix, Lady, a nine year old cocker spaniel, Levi, a one year old smooth collie, and Honda a seven year old black Rotteweiler. My personal experience with the ASPCA has always been a good one and there animals are nice and just looking for good homes. To find out what additional animals they currently have available you can visit their website at www.aspca.org.

Takeaways
  • The first adoption shelter on the list is the ASPCA.
  • Next on the list is Animal Care of New York City.
