I used to be a consumer who only purchased generic products. My husband would always tell me that cheaper isn't always better. I never cared to listen because I thought I was being thrifty and that I would eventually become wealthy because of my miserly ways. I found out the hard way after having a entire bag of trash fall out of the bottom of the bag that it was time to reconsider my plan and buy some brand name trash bags. Being a avid coupon clipper and shopping at discount stores that accept coupons, I set out with a new mission. I was going to buy the sturdiest trash bag that was made.

Armed with my coupons I set out to the local Dollar General. I came across the Glad Force Flex bags. These bags were different than the usual cheap bags I had become accustomed to, but I never wanted a repeat of trash on the floor so I took a leap of faith and purchased them.

The Glad Force Flex is made from a very strectchy elastic type material. It has a diamond shape pattern that is very smooth. The Glad Force Flex was actually made to keep items from poking thru. The technology used was originally designed for the diaper and feminine hygeine industry to use for the same purposes. The nice thing about this bag is the polyethylene that is used to make the trash bags is a recyclable product. When there are scrap pieces of polyethylene, Glad uses these pieces to make more bags. Which is a great way to keep this plastic from the landfill and our enviroment a little greener.

I was doing my shopping at Wal-Mart and had a coupon for Hefty Ultra Flex trash bags and decided I would give them a try .I knew right away I would be pleased with my purchase as I had always knew that Hefty was a brand name I could trust. I simply loved the new stronger trash bags that I had started using. I could put bottles, cans and even pizza boxes in the trash bags and they did not rip or tear. The Ultra Flex trash bags are similar in design to the Glad Force Flex Bags. I did find the drawstring handles on the Hefty Bags to be more reliable and found the Hefty bags to be a better fit for my family's lifestyle.

Takeaways
  • Cheaper is not always better
  • Flexible trash bags hug your trash
  • Most trash bags are not biodegradable

I seriously DO NOT like the hefty ultra flex bags at all. I had used the glad bags and really liked them. I saw the new hefty bags on sale and thought I would give them a try. Almost every single bag I have used the handles have ripped out of. Thats with the garbage not even full. I think its pretty sad that the generic store brand bags seem to work better than the Hefty Ultra Flex.

Hey! I'm not doing a science project, but I wanted to know which is worse for the environment, brown paper grocery bags or Glad drawstring bags? By "worse", I mean, landfill-wise.

You say that Hefty is better because of features you like, but didn't actually test one vs the other. I just finished a science project and found that Glad Force Flex held up to 60 pounds before tearing, but Hefty tore at 40 pounds!!
