Interview: Sheryl Crow Talks About a Couple Detours

Sheryl Crow has had a few tough years, but a few great years. Since her last album release Wildflowers, she has been through a breast cancer recovery and a split with longtime boyfriend Lance Armstrong. On February 5th, Sheryl Crow is ready to share

her experiences with us and her viewpoints on issues the world faces.

"The album is called Detours. I worked with Bill Bottrell who produced my first record," Crow says of her album to be released February 5th.

"The record is inspired by a lot of our current events. Bob Dylan used to talk about political issues and I think it's time we let music discuss our thoughts and feelings again," she continues.

The first single "Shine Over Babylon" discusses the world being ruled by money. It touches the subjects of the simple things people do every day that destroy our earth such as throwing away items that could be recycled or disposed of properly.

"It's environmentally conscious. Music is so focused on what's hot right now and making a quick dollar. We don't focus on the important things anymore. I hope to encourage the songwriters of this generation to write more about what they see going on in the world," she says. "I think we as celebrities have a responsibility to be good role models. Millions of people look up to us and listen to our music. The messages need to be clear."

The record was recorded mainly in her home over the summer in Nashville. Different from her previous records, Crow aims to have a more alternative rock country sound to her 13 songs chosen out of the 24 recorded for the project.

"I'm an American blues rock artist. I don't want to have just one style. I've had pop rock songs, adult contemporary songs, mainstream Top 40 songs. I love to write what I'm feeling at the time," Crow says of her latest offering.

Sheryl Crow has just released her second single from the record, called "Love is Free." The previous single was released for airplay only while this single will be released as the lead single for digital sales and airplay.

"The song was inspired by the people of New Orleans. They're strong people. You can see that they are determined to rebuild their lives."
