My Trip to See the Kansas Jayhawks Beat Virginia Tech at the Orange Bowl

Well, after much anticipation, the Orange Bowl is finally over, and my friends and I are heading home from the big game on Saturday morning. I have to say that this has been one of the most awesome experiences I've had in a long time. I'm not a huge football fan, but even so, I follow the teams from Kansas, because I consider it to be my home state. Thursday night, January 3rd, I got to see one of my favorite teams, the Kansas Jayhawks, beat Virginia Tech with a score of 24-21.

We left home on Wednesday morning, so we could get a head start on the traffic, and spent most of the day driving to Miami. Traffic was not too bad, thankfully. Hotel rooms near the stadium were at a premium, but thanks to a good friend of mine who knows how to plan ahead, we had a pretty easy time finding rooms. We finally got checked into our hotel rooms, and then spent Wednesday evening resting up for the big game. We also filled ourselves full of great food and beverages at the Hard Rock Café in Miami to make sure we had enough energy for the big day.

Thursday dawned bright and early, and you could feel an air of excitement all across the city. Kick-off wasn't until 8pm, so we spent the day just cruising around Miami, and doing some shopping. We headed to the stadium early to make sure to find our seats, and talk with other fans. Everyone was laughing, and hollering, and having a great time - the energy was contagious. We were invited to join in a few tailgate parties, but it was a little chilly and the wind was pretty brisk, so we decided to go inside the stadium and hang out at our seats. We were surprised at all the people who showed up in shorts and t-shirts. One guy even had a Jayhawk painted on his bare chest. I saw him later, and he had a sweatshirt on to keep warm - I guess even the most hardcore fans have to protect themselves from the elements.
