I simply adore sandwich wraps. Finally, a lunch I can manage to eat with one hand, while I’m reading a book or running and errand. The problem is, not a lot of places near my work carry wraps, so I’ve had to create my own. This quickly became an obsession. I was bringing wraps in for co-workers to try, making wraps at home for the kids every night, and even sending my new creations home with family members. During this testing process, I did come across some “duds”, but by far and large, most of the wraps I’ve created came with positive reviews. I began logging my favorites for my own personal use, and now I’m prepared to share them with the world! While some of these may seem pretty basic, remember, a wrap is after all just another type of sandwich, so I’m not trying to re-invent the wheel, but maybe perhaps, I can put a new spin on it! Before you get started, you’ll need to know the basic technique for wrap building.

First, start with either a burrito size tortilla, or a specialty wrap (usually these are located in the deli section of the store, or back in the Health foods section.) Spread a thin layer of whatever condiment or spreadable cheese your wrap calls for. Next, a thin layer of crunch, from lettuce, cabbage, etc and finally your meat, veggies, cheese. The key to filling a wrap is to lay it out flat, and only fill it about 2/3 of the way across, leaving an empty space about 1” around the edges of the wrap. Now, time to roll! First, fold in the sides, then holding them in, start at the edge closest to you, and roll over and over, until it is completely rolled up. I suggest packing the wraps in a cling wrap, sealed very tightly.

1. Turkey Bacon Avocado in a Whole Wheat wrap with ranch dressing. Basic wrap base of ranch dressing, shredded lettuce, 3 slices of deli-style turkey, two slices of crisp bacon and one half of an avocado, sliced. Top with shredded cheddar or Monterey jack cheese.
