Flower Power

Sue sat at the edge of her kitchen table staring at the large White Rose growing out of her oats. It didn't faze her that they were now upon her home in such vast numbers. She was numb to the shock this once caused when the infestation began. An infestation that drove her mad a short time ago-but she has peace now. Sun flowers, Daffodils, Roses, and Tulips started sprouting out of every nook and cranny just after her daughter Jasmine died from Leukemia.

"She shoulda had to bury me, not the other way around" Sue mumbled to herself, wiping a tear from her cheek.

Lavender bushes set up barriers all along the perimeter of her home and lined every pathway that she had. She's relaxed and calm about it though, because she just knew that there must be some rational explanation for all this organic growth. Sometimes there'd be a Chrysanthemum creeping on her breast when she woke in the morning, whispering to her.

Those kinds of things startled the shimmers out of her. Use to frighten her catatonic so she couldn't even get out of bed, but not any more.

Besides she liked the smell.

It was relaxing, like living in a flower shop.

Perhaps she's the cause of their advancing battalions. She always wanted to own a flower shop and sell them to friends and neighbors to brighten their day or say hey, providing a needed accessory to a wedding or a funeral one day. But she never could seem to save up enough money to start such a business in her neck of the woods were commercial rents became so cost prohibitive to the venture.

She'd found herself stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of partying and booze, that started innocently enough as overnight slumber parties with the girls, to ease the loss of her young one. And it wasn't until after she met the "dark man", a rather short lived period, that things started to go wrong. Once the "dark man" finally left, some of those things settled back into a state of normalcy, while other things didn't. Things like her love affair with Jack, Jack Daniels, the "dark mans'" fiendish friend.
