1. Nastia Liukin (USA)
NL has been getting scored very kindly on form breaks and bar positioning in word medal events for quite some time. Liukin has been silvering in almost every global event she hasn't won on the parallell bars and is known for her visual flair and prowess on the balance beam.
But growing agreement between critics debates whether or not Liukin has been failing in form and relying on favoritism to carry the day in many world events. The competition across the ocean and inside the United States has more technical difficulty in the dismount and better form, if they do have less flyaway maneuvers.
Body type: Tall and very slender with long legs. Form breaks on tumbling passes are very apparent, but artistic expression is competitive.
Balance Beam: Very High Scores
Floor Exercise: High Scores
Vaults: Consistent Scores
Uneven Bars: Highest Scores in the World
2. Shane Johnson (USA)
This wunderkind has been growing in the wings of the ladies senior gymnastic rounds for years. Her solid performance on the balance bean challenges viewers to optically correct their screens. She has very little bounce phenomenon and plants her feet on every landing while on the beam.
But seasoning and exposure to world level competition are taking their toll. While balance beam may be Shawn's best event, the competitors may outscore her on form and all around team scores. These format which performers can achieve the finals competition round in both team and individual event final medal competition.
Until Shane adapts her level of projected difficulty to what she can consistently perform, she may fall into the danger many new gymnastic superstars face. Her initial senior ladies gymnastics career might be spotted with injuries or overreaching routines.
