The truth is, there is no living with chronic kidney infections. Or, should I say, there is no life with chronic kidney infections. There is always something there to stop you from doing the things you love, or the things you want to try. There is always that persistent flank pain whether you actually have an active infection or not. Always the unremitting fatigue that causes you to have to pencil in down time during the day. Down time that takes away your writing time, drawing time, certainly all your friend time; yet without that down time you’re useless. Just a walking zombie, and still there is never enough rest to satisfy your body. So, as I said, there is no life with chronic kidney infections. In fact, there is little in sight except for more kidney infections and a deep bout of depression.

Kidney infections are a rather more serious form of UTI infections, and stem from a number of different causes. Frankly, nearly every woman has suffered from some form of UTI, generally bladder infections. We’re more prone to them due to our anatomical make up. However, chronic UTIs are not part of our anatomical or genetic make up. There is no reason why I, or any other woman should have to suffer from it!

Symptoms of a kidney infection are not to be mistaken with those of a bladder infection and include: flank pain, abdominal pain, fever, chills, vomiting, nausea, and painful urination, increased urgency in or frequency in urination, abnormally colored urine, and blood in urine. (Infections, 2006). As with any illness, you may experience a few or all of the aforementioned symptoms. Furthermore, there are two separate types of kidney infections, one is called Pyelonephritis and has very acute symptoms, while the other, glomerulonephritis, has symptoms that are often vague and hard to properly diagnose. These two types of infections also stem from different sources.

I'm so greatful for this article.. Clearly I'm not the only one. I feel like no one understands the pain I go through on a daily basis. I don't feel I'm getting the proper treatment from the doctors I've been seeing. I don't know what to do. Last year I had 8 infections and this year 3. I'm starting to get discouraged and severly depressed. I have another appointment and I'm hoping that something gets done cause I don't know how much more of this I can take... They don't understand how much it hurts and I'm not just looking for drugs... Could sure use some comfort right now.

Thank you for this article. I've been dealing with kidney infections and UTI since I was about 4 years old. It's always the right side. I'm pregnant now and it's come back. It seems to be much worse then I remembered. I really connected with this article. I am depressed. I feel my job is at risk because of the days I've missed there. Most people just want to treat it like it's an everyday cold. They don't understand the pain that goes along with it. It's not as simple as many think and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that.

This article was very comforting. At least now I know I am not going crazy. I have had two kidney infections in the past three weeks. The first one felt like it never really went away. Between fighting this and anaphylactoid rections I am exhausted. It so hard to fight both. I hope everyone feels better and thanks for sharing your story.

This is all incredibly comforting. Thank you. I have had two kidney infections in the last four weeks, have been too exhausted and in too much pain to go to work at all and my pain is only getting worse although I am just finishing a second course of antibiotics. I have seen seven doctors who have all assured me it is fine to go to work - they don't understand or hear me when I say that I have no energy to leave the house, let alone sit on a train and then at my desk. I have lost a stone in the past four weeks, although I have been eating almost normally. The above makes me realise that I can have the confidence to follow my illness through and not believe doctors who tell me that I am fine when I am not.

I found this article informative because I have Chronic Pyleonphritis and I am also MRSA positive. I feel like a zombie. I get up in the morning and wonder when I can go back to bed. The antibiotics are not working and I am severly depressed. The left a kidney stone in me for a year and told me it was to big to pass. So They had to remove through my back cause it was 3 cm in diameter. Now the kidney is badly scarred.

Well, I was just at the hospital for the 10th time for a kidney infection and was told they are not chronic when clearly, they are. The pain and fatigue is almost unbearable. I was told to take the antibiotics, that there is nothing wrong and that I too, was looking for meds. If I was looking for meds, wouldn't I pick something a little more exciting than an antibiotic? It's discouraging to say the least but I found this article very informative.

WOW after reading this article I felt that I could have written it, now if you had just added where the Dr's insist that there is nothing wrong and that kidney infections are not chronic and that clearly we are just "seeking" drugs......I feel so much better to know that I am not alone!!!
